Accessorizing your pet.. Equally wrong & funny! But more funny.

I pretty much have to have a guinea pig now!! lol.  I love this!

But I don't think this would be nearly as entertaining on my dog..  Or would it?? Hmmm..
Photos may be posted later  :)

Tree of Life.. and pearls!

This morning I came across this beautiful and intricate necklace from Peaces of Indigo artisan jewelry..

Romantic, rustic, unique... love it!

And the artist just happens to be my sister, Dawanna :)  She has a plethora of lovely pieces and a great blog as well. Check her out and support a fair-trade, American artisan!
Just to further entice you... here are a few of her other amazing pieces:

Handmade Black Baby Dolls

As the future parent of a black daughter, I have been searching for cute, non-commercial black baby dolls. Of course, I have read that it is quite important to have many ethnicities represented in her toys and dolls but we wanted to start the collection with a few cute black dolls since, sadly, its the most difficult type to find.. etsy.com has been a fantastic resource as always and I have several of my finds listed below.
So for any other adoptive parents and anyone else needing a few ideas for black baby dolls.. here are a few super-cutesies for you!

Sophia in Polka Dots African American handmade cloth rag doll
Handmade African American Rag Doll
Cara
Goodbyebluemonday's Cara doll
Kora - hand knitted doll, traditionally inspired and unique - 12 inches tall
Boobiloo's Kora Handknit doll
Little People - Girl

Hasenpfeffer's Little People - Girl

We have a similar version to the first doll, Sophia.. it was a gift from my sweet sister, Dawanna :) That little cutie sits on our living room bookshelf at this very moment. We also have the 3rd doll, Cara, because Violet's nursery simply would not be complete without her! She is presently sitting snugly in Violet's crib, waiting for her to come home, just as we are..

Etsy finds I love! :)

So maybe we do only have one nursery and maybe it is already mostly decorated... but that doesn't mean I can't equally adore all of the many sweet things on etsy.com!
For the fun of it, here are just a few of my recent favs for baby Violet  :)

Muffins with Mom & Donuts with Dad

A client of mine is a preschool teacher in Nashville and recently told me about their super cute events called "Muffins with Mom" and "Donuts with Dad"..
The kiddos gave their mom a "pedicure" and "shaved" their dads' faces.. So hilarious.

For mom, it basically included a baby wipe, followed by a fruity lotion, and then polish. Can you imagine all of those 4 y/o's polishing toes? lol.
She said it was funny how you could see the parenting style of each mom by her reaction to the polishing.. some of the moms were so laid back and complimentary to their child even though they now had polish all over their feet. Other moms were very sort of controlling and overly "helpful", wanting to make sure their child did it "right" and some actually helped to the extent of doing the polish themselves while their child sat quietly and watched.
Kind of interesting..

"Donuts with Dad" usually goes much differently though, she said. The kids apply shaving cream to their dads' faces and proceed to "shave" them with a tongue-depressor. She said the dads are hilarious, eating it up because very rarely is your child inches from your face for that length of time. She said they are trying so hard to get all of that shaving cream off :)  and that the dads are so funny and interactive with the kids, saying stuff like- oh you missed a spot! pointing to where they clearly have a beard or goatee.. and even kissing their child's face, getting shaving cream all over them too, which their child loves, of course!

Anyway, I thought it was a good story and something worth sharing..
Not sure what kind of mom I will be but I hope to be more like the laid-back mom, looking down at my ankles covered in polish and telling my child what a great job they are doing :)
I mean, its just nail polish, right?

I think for a lot of women, we have a tendency to want things done correctly and its hard to break from that mind-set.. in many instances that is important but definitely not at the cost of us missing such sweet and special moments..
Anywho, that's the story! :)

The Violet Ribbon Project/Experiment/Gift

This is our adoption project as we wait and wish for our sweet baby, Violet, to come home to us from Ethiopia..

So what is this and why?..

Truly we are continually amazed and honored by the number of people who genuinely care for our baby already! Asking about our process, encouraging us, supporting us, praying for us, buying coffee from our JustLoveCoffee online store, and just all around loving this baby that is yet to join our family..
Our hearts continue to be moved and touched beyond words.

And so this project..
I wanted to do something for our baby right now..  I would like to have something to show for this time of waiting and wishing other than frustration, lessons of patience, and acne! haha.

Thus, as a 'while we wait' project/social experiment/wonderful gift for our sweet baby, we are collecting photos of us, of you, and of anyone and everyone else who may have a place in their heart for our little Violet as she sits in an orphanage on the other side of the world..

We believe it will have a huge impact on her someday to see how many people were thinking and praying for her.. and who were connected to her with The Violet Ribbon

So here's the deal...

Please email a photo of you holding out a violet ribbon from one outstretched hand to the other. You don't have to be anywhere particularly interesting or jazzy, but that would be cool too :) Please also let us know the city and state the photo was taken so we can keep track of the travels of The Violet Ribbon once it leaves us in Tennessee on its way to Africa!!

In the end, we are going to crop the photos and then attach them together so that it appears that The Violet Ribbon is unending.. all the way to Ethiopia!
And when we finally meet our little Violet for the first time, we will tie The Ribbon to her wrist, connecting ourselves, connecting all of us, to her (and to each other) forever :)

How freaking adorable is that?!?! Seriously?..

So pleeeeeease send a photo to:   thevioletribbon@gmail.com
We'll post our first one ASAP! And if you go somewhere new and want to post another one, that's great too! Send them all!!

I will post photos and blog about the ribbon's adventures and other daily bits of interest as we wait and wish for our family to be complete..

With much love and gratitude,
Summer and Stuart
